comprehensive readiness programs
Establishing a heighten state of readiness in preparation for an important operation or event is best achieved through incrementally building readiness as planning evolves, not as an 'after thought' once planning is complete. 4 global's Readiness Programs are specifically designed and developed to incrementally build readiness through a deliberate and structured approach aligned and integrated with an organisation's development.
Typically, our incremental approach focuses first on building individual readiness (staff working in teams) followed by collective readiness (teams working together across the organisation) then focussing on joint readiness (the organisation working with external partners and stakeholders).
Supporting this important incremental approach across individual, collective and joint readiness is the concept of 'walk, jog, run' where staff and teams:
- 'Walk' - The first step in generating effective operations readiness is to validate that initial training of staff in their role, responsibilities and operations is understood and workable. Validation that training is understood and workable can be achieved by walking staff through key aspects of operations where knowledge gained in training can be applied to situations be ing 'walked' through.
- 'Jog' - once training has been delivered and understood, staff should be given an opportunity to fully develop an intuitive understanding of and ability to effectively apply their knowledge across a range of operational situations. Staff should work through readiness activities such as scenario based discussion activities at a faster tempo or jog to help them practice in a more realistic operational setting.
- 'Run' - Once staff have been trained and given the opportunity to fully understand their role and responsibilities (and that of others in their team), they should then be ready to rehearse their operations in as realistic operational setting as can be simulated. This requires a well planned run activity utilising (where possible) actual work space, means of communications, timeframes, etc. Only individuals and teams that have completed walk and jog activities should participate in run activities and exercises. Run activities should not be used as an opportunity to train new staff or introduce new teams or processes as doing so will adversely impact objective assessment of how ready the organisation(s) is and their priority of effort for 'fine tuning' areas in final lead up to operations.
